The Wedding Day
Saturday morning started off early with food preparations and some cleanup. The bridesmaids and Josh’s mom all came up to the house for brunch and to get ready for the wedding. We had such a fun time! Everyone was working on their hair, makeup, nails, dress. We were talking and laughing and crying and having a great time! A limo came to pick us up for the wedding–what fun!
When we got to the church, Kristin and Josh had “THE MOMENT” that they saw each other for the first time that day. Then the parents came in and they all prayed and hugged and cried. :-) Jon and I were watching from the back, then came up to hug them, too. That was so special.
Two hours of pictures came next (hurray for getting those all done before the wedding!!). Dad and Mom hosted a family/bridal party dinner after the pictures (Chick-fil-a catered). I didn’t get to enjoy the dinner much as I was running around finishing up details for the ceremony.
By that time, it was about 4:30, and time to finish getting ready for the ceremony! The bridal party waited in a side room off the sanctuary, where we had a special prayer time together and sang the Doxology. Kristin’s little piano students were her ring bearers and flower girls. One of the ring bearers was such a sweet, sensitive boy, and he was crying so hard, “Do you really have to move to Dallas, Miss Kristin?”
I had a bet with Aaress Lawless (one of the bridesmaids) that I wouldn’t cry during the ceremony. I told her it was mind over matter and I could make it! She just didn’t think that was possible, but with ice cream on the line, I was pretty determined. :-)
As it turned out, I was just so incredibly happy, I could not keep a smile off my face the entire ceremony!! When Kristin came down the aisle, it was an overwhelming moment. Kristin was glowing. She was radiant!! Josh was pretty happy too. :-)
Kristin and Josh had their vows memorized, and that was another incredible moment as they spoke those to each other. I was the center of the funny moment of the wedding. When I reached down to adjust her train, Josh’s ring (on my thumb) fell off and clunked on the hardwood floor. :-) I was glad it didn’t roll off the stage! It was a relief to get that ring into Kristin’s hand.
The music was the highlight of the wedding. Kristin had a professional choir (comprised of friends from church and work) and an orchestra. It was an amazing worship service, so honoring to the Lord.
During the reception, the wedding party stood in a receiving line for about an hour (that was fun to see everyone!), then K&J cut the cake and drank the punch. We enjoyed the reception for about 45 minutes before K&J went to change. Our families gathered for a special goodbye, then sent off the happy couple with sparklers and cheers!
The wedding was so much fun, we want to do it again! We had a great time with all the extended family yesterday, and today we’ve just been hanging out and relaxing. We’re tired, but happy, and so excited for Kristin and Josh.
